Why You Don't Need More Apps

Asrul Basri··3 min read

New productivity app baru launch. Reviews kata game-changer.

Kau download. Set up.

Use for 3 days.

Then back to WhatsApp and Google Sheets.

Sound familiar? You're not alone.

The average person has downloaded 20+ productivity apps, actively uses maybe 3.

The App Addiction Trap

We've been sold a lie: the right app will solve all your problems. More features = more productivity. Better interface = better output.

But here's the truth: tool obsession is procrastination in disguise.

Every hour you spend researching "best task management app 2025" is an hour you're NOT doing the actual work. Setting up a new system feels productive. But it's fake productivity.

The Real Problem Isn't Your Tools

If you can't get things done with a pen and paper, a fancy app won't save you.

The problem is never the tool. The problem is:

•       Unclear priorities (you don't know what matters)

•       No systems (you make it up as you go)

•       Too many commitments (you've said yes to everything)

•       Resistance to boring work (you want magic shortcuts)

No app fixes these. Only you can fix these.

The Minimalist Tech Stack

Here's what you actually need. Not 20 tools. Three.

1. Communication Tool

Pick ONE. WhatsApp, Slack, or Telegram. Stick with it. The one your team already uses is the best one.

2. Task/Project Tracker

Pick ONE. Notion, Google Sheets, or even a physical notebook. Where you track what needs to be done.

3. Document Storage

Pick ONE. Google Drive, Dropbox, or Notion. Where your files live.

That's it. Three tools. Communication, tasks, files. Everything else is optional.

Workflow First, Tools Second

Before you pick any tool, answer these questions:

1.    What's your daily workflow? (What do you do from morning to night?)

2.    Where do you lose time? (What slows you down?)

3.    What information do you need access to? (And how often?)

4.    Who do you need to coordinate with? (And how?)

Only AFTER you understand your workflow should you pick tools. The tool should fit YOUR process, not the other way around.

The 30-Day Tool Challenge

Here's a challenge: for the next 30 days, stop looking for new apps.

•       No browsing Product Hunt

•       No reading "best app" articles

•       No downloading new productivity tools

Use what you have. Master it. Build habits with it. You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish with "basic" tools when you stop chasing shiny objects.

Conclusion: Simplicity Wins

The most productive people aren't using 15 apps. They're using 3-4 tools extremely well.

Stop searching for the perfect app. It doesn't exist. Start mastering your workflow with the simplest tools available.

Your productivity is in your habits, not your apps.
